Memories of an Earthbound Spirit
The pier juts concrete, toward Five Mile Crib,
round point of reference
as the cointreau sun
is sipped and swallowed below
Erie's hyphen-flat horizon.
Submerged beneath the pier,
old Municipal Stadium: jagged blonde brick,
twists of rebar, rusting.
The rock bass and sheephead believe it's a reef.
Mist breezes past, ghost-cold.
Ghost: a program to protect computers.
Restorative power for tangled bytes of crashed drives.
A photo-perfect replica gathered from memory,
accurate as the memories of a ghost
who cannot forget sunset's burning copper,
the eerie cry of a violin, as its bow's amber sheen
of rosin spins sound.
A ghost who remembers
walleye filets that smell fresh as water,
fried butter-gold as tequila.
A ghost amazed by the twisted,
submerged potential of language,
who disregards the white-lit tunnel,
reluctant to leave.
