SO WHAT
if the three
choices are:
Preaching to
the choir,
the indifferent,
and/or
the unconverted.
The unconverted
being unconvertible
in the rigidity
of their dogmatism,
or purity of reason
working like blinders,
a validity
of argument
oblivious of
any lack of
the factualness
of its premises
impenetrable
to persuasion.
The indifferent
wanting to just
get on with their lives
or their business,
whatever that may be,
undiverted
in their distraction
or undistracted
by diversion,
like a course
through darkness
blind to any
landscape but
that which is
immediately
in front of
the face of intention.
And then the choir
so ready
to harmonize,
ready with response,
an "Amen,"
like claque work.
But beyond
any carillon's
harangue,
the drama,
like time's slow drip,
cont in ues
un de ter'd.
The best effort
of the best intention
may be contradicted
by what ensues.
Knowing
may be taken
for a church;
& a church
may be taken
for knowing:
Believing
may believe
itself knowledge.
THIS fact is
a parent
of much delusion
Politics,
religion,
commerce:
Tripartite,
trinity,
triumvirate.
Holey!
Holy!
Wholly!
Don't tread on me,
ye powers that be
or powerless are.
Holey like Swiss cheese
of holey like a colander,
holey like a leaky pail.
Holy like deserving reverence.
Holy like deserving awe.
Holy like the truth got right.
Wholly like what it totality.
Wholly like what is complete.
From wholly was to wholly is
to what may yet be.
