My job

\nfor the fire, fasten in kindling,
\nrick for reminiscence, eager
\nfor teachings of story
\nand song<\/p>\n

The grownups
\nfed it logs with
\nconsidered timing<\/p>\n

Tired in the tent,
\nbut willfully awake, hungry
\nfor the amazing continuity of this bounty
\nthe magic discoveries of camping
\npresents on the template
\nof my new me<\/p>\n

Shadows on the tent wall, grownups
\nand their ombres chinoises backlit crackling
\nmuffled exclamations in the hands of
\nfire and smoke<\/p>\n

The animal family room of the tent
\nLung-warmed, body-warmed air
\nwoodsmoke and dry sweat<\/p>\n

Three brothers and their little boy smells
\nMom and her home smell
\nDad and his mystery<\/p>\n

Waking to jewelry of birdsong
\ncanopy of love
\nkindling<\/p>\n

Secure this for everyone
\nforever and ever, amen
\nand blessed
\nbe<\/p>\n
