They say
\nOnly after a long cold
\nDoes one know the warmth<\/p>\n

Only after the frozen white
\nCan one see the colors<\/p>\n

Only after smooth slip
\nWill one feel the earth.<\/p>\n

They say
\nonly after the solitary
\ncocooning
\nsilent
\nwinter<\/p>\n

One may hear spring.<\/p>\n

seeps from the earth,
\ndrips over sand-<\/p>\n
stone<\/p>\n
(thick lip
\nhigh above<\/p>\n
shale)<\/p>\n
and drops<\/p>\n
to a pool<\/p>\n
forty feet below<\/p>\n
deep now in March
\ndry by May.<\/p>\n
